Steve Winwood "Nine Lives" Radio Special

The legendary singer-songwriter-multi-instrumentalist Steve Winwood has signed a new deal with Columbia Records who will release the artist's highly-anticipated new major label album, "Nine Lives," on Tuesday, April 29. The eagerly-awaited "Nine Lives" is Winwood's first full-length studio album since About Time, released on Winwood's own independent label, Wincraft, in 2003; and it opens an important new chapter in Steve's extraordinary career. The musician also recently announced that he will head out on a national tour with Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers this summer for shows across the U.S. Each of the nine tracks on the aptly-titled "Nine Lives" paints a musical portrait of spiritual transformation as Winwood continues the exploration of soul, rock, blues and world music which began in 1957, when, at the age of 9, he played guitar in his father's band in Birmingham, England. Songs on "Nine Lives" include "I'm Not Drowning," "Fly," "Raging Sea," "Dirty City," "We're All Looking," "Hungry Man," "Secrets," "At Times We Do Forget," and "Other Shore." Additionally, fellow musical legend Eric Clapton lends guitar work to "Dirty City." News of Steve Winwood's "Nine Lives" comes in the wake of a transcendent live collaboration between Winwood and his erstwhile Blind Faith bandmate Eric Clapton at the Chicago Crossroads Guitar Festival in July 2007. The pair's staggering on-stage chemistry in Chicago led to the announcement of three historic Steve Winwood & Eric Clapton concerts at New York's fabled Madison Square Garden, scheduled for February 25, 26 and 28, 2008. Tickets for all three of Winwood's MSG shows with Clapton sold-out within minutes of their release. Winwood (who turns 60 this year) was perhaps the youngest member of the original British pop music invasion of the mid-1960s. A prodigious guitarist and keyboard player in the Birmingham R&B scene by his mid-teens, Winwood cut his musical chops as a back-up musician for an impressive array of American rock & roll and blues pioneers -- including Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Howlin' Wolf, B.B. King, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley -- during their UK tours. In 1962, Steve and his older brother, Muff Winwood, began playing with Spencer Davis and drummer Pete York in The Rhythm & Blues Quartet, an ensemble which would eventually morph into the Spencer Davis Group. An intensely powerful and emotional vocalist and formidable songwriter, Steve Winwood launched an enormously influential "blue-eyed soul" movement with hits like "Keep On Runnin'," "Somebody Help Me," and, especially, the massively successful pop-soul anthem, "Gimme Some Lovin'." Originally released in 1966, "Gimme Some Lovin'" entered the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1996. Winwood left the Spencer Davis Group in 1967 to form the groundbreaking jazz-rock ensemble Traffic. In 1966, as "Gimme Some Lovin' transformed the pop landscape, the 18-year-old Steve Winwood entered into his first collaboration with Eric Clapton, recording three songs -- "Steppin' Out," "Crossroads," and "I Want To Know" -- as the Powerhouse (a group which also included future Cream bassist Jack Bruce). Winwood and Clapton would join forces again in 1969 to create Blind Faith, one of pop music's first bona fide supergroups, with drummer Ginger Baker and bassist Rick Grech. Following the break-up of Traffic in 1974 (they would reform and successfully tour in the 1990s), Steve Winwood launched a successful solo career which reached an apogee in the mid-1980s with the release of four classic albums in a row: Arc of a Diver (1981, platinum); Talking Back To The Night (1982); Back In The High Life (1986, 3x platinum), which featured the #1 smash, "Higher Love," which earned Winwood a trio of Grammys including "Record of the Year"; and the #1 Billboard chart-topping Roll With It (1988, 2x platinum). Carole King - Tapestry Radio Special

Carole King’s 1971 masterpiece, Tapestry, endures as an artistic benchmark, a cornerstone of ’70s pop, and an industry phenomenon. The original home to such classics as "It's Too Late," "I Feel the Earth Move," and "You've Got a Friend," the album is now being released with a second CD of live performances. Tapestry: Legacy Edition arrives in stores April 15th on Epic/Ode/Legacy, a division of SONY BMG MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT. Tapestry: Legacy Edition finally realizes the decades-long dream concept of its producer, Lou Adler, as it marries a newly remastered version of the classic 12-song album with a second CD containing previously unreleased live piano-voice concert versions of songs from the album (in the same order) recorded in 1973 (Boston; Columbia, Maryland; and New York’s Central Park), and 1976 (San Francisco Opera House). The two-CD package, the latest addition to the deluxe Legacy Edition Series, will arrive in stores April 15th on Epic/Ode/Legacy, a division of SONY BMG MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT. The release of Tapestry: Legacy Edition also acknowledges Carole King’s 50th year as a recording artist. It was 1958 when she graduated from New York’s High School Of Performing Arts (PA), met songwriting partner and future husband Gerry Goffin at Queens College, and signed with Al Nevins and Don Kirshner’s Aldon Music (in the legendary Brill Building). Her debut single, “The Right Girl” was released on ABC-Paramount Records in May 1958. When asked to comment about the impact of Tapestry, Carole King said, “I feel honored that Tapestry has made a difference in small ways and large ways in people's lives around the world. It’s been a major part of my life, too,” she adds. “As a songwriter, I’m so happy that the songs have held up for all of these years. Genesis marked its 40th anniversary in 2006, and in 2007, honored the occasion with a tour reuniting the three man line-up that defined the group through its most successful era: lead vocalist/drummer Phil Collins, guitarist Mike Rutherford, and keyboardist Tony Banks. Onstage together for the first time in fifteen years, the power trio's “Turn It On Again Tour” played to sold-out stadiums and arenas nationwide and internationally. Adding to the celebration is Rhino's continued upgrade of Genesis' catalog with GENESIS 1983-1998, the second of three historic box sets that will ultimately cover their entire output to date. GENESIS 1983-1998 spotlights the band's “power trio years,” during which time Phil Collins also became a solo superstar. The box encompasses two-disc, CD/DVD editions of four classic albums - three with Collins - plus one rarities compilation: Genesis, Invisible Touch, We Can't Dance, Calling All Stations and Extra Tracks 1983-1998. Each of the four remastered CD/DVD album reissues are also available individually, but Extra Tracks is only available as part of the ten-disc GENESIS 1983-1998. The CDs for each of the four catalog titles presents the original album in a sonically superior new stereo remix, remastered for optimum sound. The rarities CD presents unearthed gems spanning '83-'98. Stephen Stills - "Just Roll Tape" Radio Special

This historic collection from Eyewall/Rhino debuts remastered versions of twelve previously unreleased demos recorded by legendary singer-songwriter and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Stephen Stills at an impromptu 1968 session. Featuring Stephen in ultra fine voice and accompanied only by acoustic guitar, the disc includes the first-ever recorded takes of classics he'd later release solo and with CSN, CSN&Y and Manassas. Stripped-down song treasures include seminal recordings of the CSN hits “Suite: Judy Blue Eyes,” “Helplessly Hoping” and “Wooden Ships,” plus the solo favorites “Change Partners” and “So Begins The Task.” The story of how these demos came to be released is as extraordinary as the tapes themselves. They were originally made in April, 1968, after Stills had left Buffalo Springfield and before CSN formed. Stephen was in New York City at a recording date with then-girlfriend Judy Collins, and when she finished her session, he handed one of the engineers a couple of hundred dollar bills and told him, “Just roll tape.” After recording the demos, Stills left the masters behind in the studio, and they were almost discarded when the facility closed in 1978. Joe Colasurdo, a musician who happened to be rehearsing there around that time, was told by the owner that he could carry away any tapes he wanted before the place was vacated. Colasurdo figured he'd reuse whatever masters he carted off, but when he saw Stills' name on several of the boxes, he kept them safe until he found a reel-to-reel machine to play them on. Realizing his amazing find, Joe attempted to get the masters back to Stills, an endeavor that ended up taking 25 years. In 2003, after by chance meeting a close friend of Graham Nash, he was able to pass the tapes to Nash, who in turn gave them to Stills and encouraged him to release them. Lost for almost forty years, “these songs,” Stephen has said, “now feel like great friends when they were really young.”
